WorkStep Acquires WorkHound to Strengthen Frontline Engagement Capabilities Across Logistics and Industrial Sectors
Apr 24, 2025

WorkStep has officially acquired WorkHound, a frontline employee feedback platform, in a strategic move to deepen its impact on frontline workforce engagement. By combining WorkStep’s data-driven insights and WorkHound’s real-time feedback capabilities—especially strong in the trucking sector—the acquisition enables expanded customer support, accelerated product development, and enhanced benchmarking across industries like logistics, retail, and manufacturing. This marks a pivotal step in WorkStep’s mission to reduce turnover, improve employee experiences, and reshape the future of frontline work.

WorkStep, a San Francisco-based provider of an AI-powered frontline workforce engagement platform, has acquired WorkHound, a Chattanooga-based leader in real-time, anonymous employee feedback solutions. The acquisition marks a strategic move by WorkStep to expand its capabilities in workforce insights, particularly across the transportation, logistics, and warehousing sectors. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This merger brings together two mission-driven companies with a shared focus on improving the frontline worker experience. WorkHound’s platform, which enables real-time and anonymous communication between workers and management, has earned widespread adoption in the trucking industry—an area long challenged by high turnover rates and complex employee retention dynamics.

“WorkHound has built a reputation for helping companies give voice to their frontline teams,” said Dan Johnston, CEO of WorkStep. “By joining forces, we’re accelerating our ability to deliver end-to-end engagement solutions that reduce turnover, surface actionable insights, and create workplaces where frontline employees thrive.”

Strategic Benefits for WorkStep Customers

The acquisition is expected to deliver multiple layers of value to WorkStep’s customers:

  • Expanded Talent and Technology: The integration of WorkHound’s team and technology will enhance WorkStep’s R&D capabilities and strengthen support resources for customers operating in complex frontline environments.

  • Greater Community and Data Insights: Customers will now gain access to a broader peer network of HR and operations leaders, alongside deeper benchmarking insights derived from a significantly larger data pool.

  • Sector-Specific Strength: WorkHound’s expertise in transportation and logistics complements WorkStep’s existing customer base in manufacturing and distribution, allowing the combined entity to address frontline engagement with greater precision and contextual relevance.

Founded with the goal of making the frontline a better place to work, WorkStep has become a key player in helping companies engage and retain their hourly workforce by providing actionable analytics across the employee journey—from onboarding to offboarding. With this acquisition, the company reinforces its position at the intersection of HR technology and industrial operations.

A Broader Vision for the Future of Work

The acquisition also reflects a larger industry shift toward tech-enabled workforce empowerment. As employers face mounting pressure to improve retention and respond to worker feedback more intelligently, platforms that combine automation with empathetic design are gaining traction.

“Making the frontline a better place to work isn’t just about technology—it’s about listening, adapting, and leading with purpose,” Johnston added. “This partnership with WorkHound is a pivotal step in that journey.”

WorkHound CEO Max Farrell echoed the sentiment, noting that the companies’ shared values make the integration a natural fit. “We’ve always believed that a more informed employer is a more effective employer. Together with WorkStep, we’ll expand the reach of that impact and continue to give workers a meaningful voice.”

As both companies integrate operations in the coming months, they plan to introduce new features focused on deeper feedback analytics, enhanced mobile experiences, and AI-driven predictive insights for frontline workforce planning.
