It was founded in 1995 by Robert J. McGovern, originally as NetStart Inc. In September 2024 CareerBuilder merged with Monster.com (with Apollo Global Management funds as majority owner); after a June 2025 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, career-brand operator BOLD won the auction for its assets in 2025.
