Key facts

  • BoomerangHR emerged from stealth with $12.7M in seed funding, led by Kalos Ventures and Album Ventures (with Monta Vista Capital, Atlanta Seed, Capital 11 and the Strada Education Foundation participating).
  • Founded in 2023 by Jeff Wald.
  • Automates offboarding compliance: exit compliance, COBRA administration, 401(k) rollovers, equipment-return tracking and exit interviews.
  • Runs a centralized alumni network of verified profiles and matches former employees to open roles via the customer's ATS.
  • Designed to operate without HR logging in; Warby Parker is an early customer.
  • Context: Gartner has projected up to one in four candidate profiles could be fake by 2028, per HR Brew.

Offboarding is the stretch of the employee lifecycle most HR teams handle worst — a scramble of compliance tasks and severed relationships. BoomerangHR, which emerged from stealth this week with $12.7 million in seed funding, is betting that automating it can turn every departure into a future rehire.

Founded in 2023 by Jeff Wald, the company closed a round led by Kalos Ventures and Album Ventures, with participation from Monta Vista Capital, Atlanta Seed, Capital 11 and the Strada Education Foundation, HR Brew reported.

What it does

BoomerangHR works in two halves. On offboarding, it automates the compliance grind: exit compliance, COBRA administration, 401(k) rollovers, equipment-return tracking and exit interviews. On the alumni side, it maintains a centralized network of verified former-employee profiles and matches those alumni to open roles through the customer's ATS, with reporting on talent migration and re-engagement.

Its most unusual design choice: HR never has to touch it. "Not a single one of our clients logs into Boomerang, ever," Wald told HR Brew.

Eyewear brand Warby Parker is an early customer. "BoomerangHR gives us a thoughtful, streamlined way to stay connected" with former employees, said Chelsea Kaden, the company's chief people officer.

Why now

Wald frames alumni management as something only the biggest companies have been able to resource. "Why is it that the best companies spend millions of dollars a year to stay in touch with their alumni?" he asked — arguing every HR team should have that capability.

The pitch leans on two labor-market pressures: employers relying more on boomerang hires and referrals to keep hiring costs down, and a growing trust problem in the hiring pipeline. Gartner has projected that as many as one in four candidate profiles could be fake by 2028, HR Brew noted — making a verified alumni network a more reliable place to source talent.

Why it matters

Offboarding and alumni management have long been an afterthought — handled by point tools or manual work — so a venture-backed, automation-first entrant suggests investors now see a standalone category sitting between HRIS, benefits admin and recruiting. If BoomerangHR's 'no login required' model holds up, it reframes alumni networks from an enterprise luxury into mid-market infrastructure, giving HR teams a verified, warm talent pool at a moment when fake candidates are eroding trust in cold sourcing.
