Oregon Narrows Home Care Wage and Hour Exemption, Effective Jan. 1, 2027

Oregon's Senate Bill 1518, effective January 1, 2027, freezes the state's companionship services exemption to the federal definition as of 2016 and bars third-party home care agencies from claiming the exemption for workers they employ, according to the bill's text. HR and payroll teams managing agency-employed home care workers in Oregon will need to audit exempt classifications before the law takes effect.
